This athletic senior certainly put me to shame during parts of the session but the result is a stunning collection of images that highlight not only Gina’s extraordinary energy but her joy for chasing birds, love of the water and for her family.

Prepare to be enamoured!

Gina has quite an interesting story. She was ‘rescued’ from the Lost Dogs Home in north Melbourne in 2004. The pound could offer almost no information about where she had come from or even what her name was, she was thin, timid and about 4 years old (again the pound was not certain).

In her brother Nic’s own words -
“At the time my brother and I where slowly wearing mum and dad down on getting a dog. We’d gone and reserved Gina and convinced Dad to come down and see her, when we arrived another dog escaped into the yard at the dogs home and all the other dogs went nuts, barking, jumping etc, Gina was the only one to remain calm, hence Dad was sold. Next we got Mum to come down, she had been the hardest to wear down, and the first thing Gina did was jump up on her lap… she couldn’t say no after that.”

Over the next few months Gina slowly became more confident with her new family, graduating from hiding in the backyard all the way up to sitting on the couch with her new Dad watching TV. Fast forward to now, she’s about 12/13 years old, has the family and extended family in the palm of her paw and spends her time living between her mum and dads place and her brother Nic and his girlfriends home. They all plan their week around her, making sure they all get enough time with her and that she always has someone to take her on a walk.

Some of her favourite things:

eating, walking, chasing birds.
{When she was younger she’d chase birds for hours at the local park. She’s started to slow down a little now but will still chase until she literally can’t walk}

I’m pretty sure we both slept well that night!

We were privileged with some glorious afternoon light near the Silvan Reservoir in the Yarra Valley, which is about 40km east of Melbourne, Victoria.

He has the fluffiest tail I’ve ever seen regardless of breed bar none! And those dreamy yellow eyes . . . WOW. Ok, ok, I may be somewhat smitten, but only a little – honest.

I was also lucky enough to meet some of Harry’s friends, Charlie and Princess who, although not the focus of this session, were more than happy to show their stuff in front of the camera.

First up has to be the veteran! At just over 3 Jett is still quite young, but considering the youth he’s surrounded by this supposedly makes him the ‘mature’ one . . . hmmmm, ANYWAY!

That’s the last time I slice an artery & need emergency surgery while mum and dad are away and the house-sitter has to save my life . . . but chicks dig scars right!? Right!?

I’m A-ok now and can still pose like the best of them!

Boston is Wet Nose Fotos’ ‘Chief Trouble Maker’!

Next up is Wet Nose Fotos’ ‘Chief Trouble Maker’. Now that may not seem like a very official role, but Boston takes his job VERY seriously and wouldn’t dream of letting down the team. At only 6 months old he’s a teenager and plays the stereotype perfectly!

Pirate is Wet Nose Fotos’ ‘Chief Treat Tester’!

And last but certainly NOT least is Wet Nose Fotos’ ‘Chief Treat Tester’. Probably the most coveted role on the team, but as the official ‘puppy’ of the group one deserves special privileges, no?! At just 12 weeks old, {hence the vaccination visit} Pirate is going to be a very large boy. He’s a completely chilled out individual and while the ‘big’ boys shake with excitement at the next potential treat on offer, Pirate will calmly sit and wait, safe in the knowledge that he’s WAY TOO CUTE to ever be left out!

Sooty turned 10 late last year but you’d never tell! Not only has he retained his puppy looks but he still boast the Jack Russell energy the breed is famous for!

There’s no slowing down in sight either and I was kept on my toes the whole session. We had an absolute blast in the gorgeous Queensland sunshine as you will see . . .

Just a bit of sad news. Both Anzac and Charlie passed away recently (due to illness related to their advancing years). We loved them so much and the pain is still raw. But we are writing to say thank you again for the photos – they are a great comfort to us at this sad time and we cherish the memory of the lovely day you came and took their photos. It’s never easy learning a previous client has lost their beloved furry family member. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to meet and hang out with this pair who were absolute superstars for me.

I had the pleasure of photographing Anzac and Charlie in March 2010. The boys were already mature ‘men’ then and so have enjoyed a full and wonderful life with their human companions Tina and Con.

Here’s some back story in their words from 2010 -

Anzac. Beagle. 13yo { so reached the milestone of 15 }
We inherited Anzac 10 years ago when my parents died. He followed Dad every where and got very stressed out with mange etc when he died. But he bounced back fine and we now live in the same house as they did on acreage. He loves to patrol the property fence line and then it is back to his pillows and comforts of indoors and FOOD.

Charlie. Terrier x. 10yo { ? }
As for Charlie, I found him on the road 7 years ago that is an interesting story about kismet. He still has the wonderlust I think for adventure – he is an escape artist and we have alcatraz here but he still dreams of the other side of the fence and digs some spectacular tunnels. We know when he comes inside with his nose covered in dirt and a deliriously manic look on his face that it is time to inspect the fence line. He loves his walks and turns into a different dog then as well – he has so many different moods – sometime he looks like Yoda on Star Wars and others just basically crazy.

This well travelled pooch came all the way from Lismore in New South Wales for our session at Sweeney Reserve, Petrie on the outskirts of Brisbane. After a few reschedules due to the recent sporadicly wet Queensland weather we finally locked it down in January. Bella brought her A-game and was ready to be the centre of attention {aren’t we all!}

First it was important to explore the area and sniff out anything that may be of interest. Check.

So we’re getting organised, we’re getting everything sparkly clean, we’re well onto our way for a Fresh Start. But like I said, this week is all about laying foundations for the year ahead. Feeling secure knowing you’ve got the big stuff sorted. Knowing that you have a safety net to catch you when things fall apart. Because as much as we want life to be perfect – it aint. So this month I want to encourage you to go about creating your own DIY Doggie At Home Medical Kit.

We shot her session at picturesque Kangaroo Point in Brisbane. It certainly turned on some nice, albeit very warm weather for us and we had a fun-filled session with Brisbane City in the backdrop.

This gorgeous 3 and a half year old loved the camera!

Shadow was originally booked in for my September trip to Brisbane but unfortunately injured his shoulder. Luckily Shadow was in fine form for our session this time and I think you’ll agree he had a blast!
